Located in Cass County lies the city of Casselton. With a population of 2329, it is the 20th largest city in North Dakota. George Washington Cass established a station there in 1876, and as such the town was named in his honor. Cass was a president of the Northern Pacific Railway.
The town has it's roots in farming, as Cass and his associate Peter Cheney traded their stock in the railroad for 10,000 acres of land near Casselton and developed it onto one large farm. The farm was a huge success and showed that the prairie was ideal for farming.
Casselton has a substantial red squirrel population that has made it the mascot for Central Cass High School.
Despite being a smaller city, Casselton has a number of places to shop and dine. Grocery stores include Casselton Cold Storage, a full service meat market that specializes in fresh meats and deli items, including cheeses. You can even bring in your own livestock for processing. Or try one of their famous brats.
If you're looking for great local places to eat, there's a number of selections. Casselton Pizza Ranch, Kerry's Kitchen, Red Baron Lounge & Pizza Pub are among those. Casselton Pizza Ranch not only offers pizza, but other favorites such as fried chicken, various starters, as well as a buffet.
The estimated population of Casselton is 2,521 residents, with 702 households as of the 2010 census. The median income for a household is about $43,000.
The Central Cass school district covers over 400 square miles and enrolls about 875 students. The high school enjoys a 0% dropout rate, which speaks to it's quality curriculum. The high school was remodeled in 1996 and is one of the most technologically advanced schools in the state of North Dakota.
Casselton Robert Miller Regional Airport serves the city's air transportation needs. It offers a wide range of services as well for aircraft owners.
