Barnesville is a city located in Clay County MN, with just under 2600 residents. It was founded in 1874 by George Barnes, after whom the city was named. Barnesville is located about 30 miles from Fargo and 30 miles from Minnesota Lakes, giving the city an ideal location due to its proximity to a large city and recreational opportunities.
Barnesville has a number of unique places to shop. Langerud Custom Saddles has been making custom built saddle for decades. Other stores include Thompson Greenery, Front Street Village antiques, and City Center drug store.
Barnesville also offer s a number of great places to eat as well. Renee’s Drive In offers all the delicious food you would expect at a classic drive-in, such as burgers, fries, and onion rings, along with friendly service. Mainline Bar & Grill offers great food, full bar, ample seating, pool table, darts and arcade games, all inside an old potato warehouse. The Eagle Café serves up classics like roast beef lunch, mashed potatoes, half chicken with cheesy browns, soup and salad. And if you need some good old fast food, there’s Subway and Dairy Queen.
Over a 10 year period from 2000-2010, the population of Barnesville has increased by 18% and 80 new homes have been built. There are just under 700 families in the city with a population density of 1,165 residents per square mile.
There are 11 parks located in Barnesville. Those parks include Willow Creek Golf Course, a municipal 9-hole course. Blue Eagle Park features a walking path, fishing pier, playgrounds, tennis and pickle ball courts, picnic shelter, lighted sledding hill, and volleyball pit. Blue Eagle Lake offers a swimming beach during the summer along with swimming lessons. Other parks include, George J Dahm Park, McGrath Park, Friendship Park, Skating Rink and Warming House, Summer Dog Park, Del acres Park, Peterson Park, And Harry Holland Memorial Park.
Barnesville is served by the I.S.D. 146 District. There are two schools in the Barnesville, Atkinson Elementary that has grades K-6 and Barnesville High is for grades 7-12.
